Just as I am

This week has been a little crazy.  It has not been a crazy where I can identify three specific reasons for the crazy.  I can’t give specific reasons’ because the list would be to long and seem to ‘normal’.  It probably looked similar to your week.  Sometimes weeks don’t need to be traumatizing for me to be ready for the week to be done.  I have just been in a funk.  Things just have not been falling into the places I thought they should fall.

This blog post is one of those things that was not falling into place.  I have tried to write about a hymn about 7 different times over the week.   It was originally going to be on ‘Come to Calvary’s Holy Mountain’ (Maybe next week).  That was before Billy Graham passed away this week.

I’m too young to have been directly affected by his crusades but I have heard stories this week about the man and the crusades.  Kathy Lee gave a tribute to his legacy.  Christ met her in a movie theater during a Billy Graham movie.  Just this morning I learned that l ‘Just as I am, without one plea’ would be playing in the background during the final alter call.

This week ‘Just as I am’ was a hymn I could hear played in my head over and over again.  It is a hymn that is applicable the first time Christ brings us to him AND each day after.  It is a prayer that can be sung weekly, daily, even hourly.

Just as I am

Just as I am without one plea  But that Thy blood was shed for me

And that thou biddst me come to Thee O Lamb of God I come, I come

Just as I am and waiting not to rid my soul of one dark blot.

To Thee, whose blood can cleanse each spot, O Lamb of God I come, I come

Just as I am though tossed about With many a conflict many a doubt

Fighting’s and fears within without O Lamb of God I come I come

Just as I am poor wretched blind Sight riches healing of the mind,

Yea all I need, in Thee to find, O Lamb of God I come, I come.

Just as I am, Thou wit receive.  Wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve

Because Thy promise I believe, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am; Thy love unknown Has broken every barrier down

Now to be Thine yea, Thine alone, O Lamb of God I com, I come.

Just as I am with all my conflicts and doubts

Just as I am with my sinful blotted soul

Just as I am blind to His goodness

Just as I am overwhelmed by the day to day

Just as I am crabby because my plans did not pan out

Just as I am tired and haggard

Just as I am clinging to my cup of coffee

Just as I am listening to my kids yell at each other in the basement again and at a loss for how to intervene.

Just as I am Jesus comes to me.  I do not need to clean up my act he meets us where we are and does the cleaning for us.

Rest in that assurance.  ‘Just as I am without one plea’ Jesus’s blood was shed for you.
